Janice is the consulting speech-language pathologist for Family Behavioral Resources (FBR), a behavioral health rehabilitation services provider that specializes in treating children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders. She is a member of the Professional Advisory Council (PAC) for the Advisory Board on Autism and Related Disorders (ABOARD), which is a nonprofit Autism education and advocacy organization. Janice is a Network Supervisor (Clinical Supervisor) with the University of Pittsburgh’s Communication Sciences and Disorders program. She also co-organizes the ABOARD sponsored southwestern Pennsylvania High-functioning/Aspergers Adult Social Group.
During the 2009 Penn State Autism Conference, Janice will be a panelist for a discussion group comprised of siblings of adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She will also be a conference presenter focusing on the topic of supporting social communication in learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
In addition, Janice works as both an advocate for parents with children under the Autism Spectrum, and as a consultant to school districts recommending appropriate support for the needs of children with communication disorders. In addition to her private practice, she currently provides speech and language services, as well as trainings, to PA Cyber: The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School. Janice has presented to family support groups sponsored by ABOARD, as well as to the Pittsburgh Public School District’s Summer Institute 2005, and the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit. Nathan Speech Services provided speech and language services to Propel Charter Schools from 2004-2007, whose elementary/middle schools are located in primarily economically disadvantaged communities.
Prior to starting her private practice, Janice worked for three years at The Children's Institute, an independent nonprofit pediatric rehabilitation specialty hospital in Pittsburgh. Before moving to Pennsylvania, she worked in the Paradise Valley School District in Phoenix, Arizona, providing services for children in preschool through 6th grade. She received her Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders from Arizona State University and her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Oregon.
