Janice’s Approach to Therapy and Intervention

Janice helps children develop and use the prerequisite skills essential for successful social communication. The ability to use language for reasoning and problem solving is critical for academic and social success.

These skills underlie the development of self-insight, and understanding how others think and feel.  For all children with language disorders, including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developing these skills is fundamental for successful communicative interactions, reading comprehension and written expression.

Speech Therapy
“Each child is unique.  I approach speech therapy not as responses to specific behaviors, but by thoroughly understanding each child’s unique needs, personality and circumstances. I take a clinical approach that treats the child as I want to be treated – with respect, dignity and integrity.  No child wants to have a bad day, but when a child cannot express himself or herself through language, he or she tends to “act out” due to frustration.  I approach therapy as a combination of language intervention and helping the child understand and express his or her emotional frustrations."
